摘要:Objective: to analyze the perceptions of pregnant women in a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro about the explanatory model of posters against tobacco during pregnancy. Methodology: this is a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative study, carried out between October and November 2011, with pregnant women at different gestational ages, attended at a municipal public maternity hospital in Rio de Janeiro, whose data were collected through individual interviews referring to the explanatory model of 3 posters against tobacco produced by the Ministry of Health. Results: 50.2% of the interviewees were 30 years old and in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, while 33.3% of pregnant women were smokers and are incredulous about the fact that significant changes could occur in the population under the motivation of the poster and the image to avoid tobacco. Conclusion: communication as a preventive practice is still effective in health education practices through public policies.
