摘要:Sildenafil Citrate (SC) is a drug widely used by men, mainly for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Many times the treatment has no medical follow-up, thus becoming a worrisome factor for the medical-scientific community. This study aimed to investigate the possible alterations of the chronic use of Sildenafil Citrate in the posterior hypothalamus of rats. Ten brains of male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) were used. The animals were housed in boxes containing three animals, treated with commercial feed and water at will and kept in a 12 hour light-dark cycle, and divided into 2 groups: G1 - control group (no medication) and G2 - Sildenafil group (10 mg/kg). The results obtained show that there was a significant difference between the control group (25.43 ± 11.82) and the group treated with CS (20.65 ± 9.22), that is, in the CS group, neuronal density was 18.79% lower than in the control group. These data allow us to conclude that indiscriminate use of Sildenafil Citrate decreases the number of neuron cell bodies in the posterior hypothalamic area of the male rat brain. This neuronal loss may cause severe clinical changes in the systems in which the hypothalamus is involved.
