摘要:Balance between occlusal forces and the adequate reaction of the supporting periodontal tissues is of fundamental importance for the integrity of all structures that make up the stomatognathic system. When this principle is impaired, the so-called trauma of occlusion develops. The objective of this present work is to report a clinical case carried out at the INAPóS school clinic, in Pouso Alegre - MG and scientifically support the etiology and justification for the treatment of an ASA 2 patient, according to the ASA classification (American Society of Anesthesiology), 33 years old, Caucasian, non-smoker, without underlying systemic disease, but with a history of mental illness (schizophrenia). The patient came to the INAPóS school clinic, complaining of “pain in the back teeth”. In the clinical examination, the main findings were: absence of teeth 26, 36, 16, 46, 47 and premature contact on the prosthetic crown of tooth 27. In the radiographic examination, it was possible to observe extensive vertical bone loss on the mesial surface of tooth 27, which indicated the element to perform the extraction, and so it was done. Then, a removable partial denture was made.
