摘要:The teeth that most suffer impaction are the third molars, the indications for extraction of these teeth are resorption of the root of the adjacent dental element, periodontal disease, odontogenic cysts, caries, orthodontic purpose, among others. However, in patients with advanced age, systemic diseases and risks to adjacent structures, surgery is contraindicated. According to the literature, the most common accidents and complications are paresthesia of the inferior alveolar nerve, trismus, hemorrhage, pain, alveolitis, infection and bone fractures. This study aimed to present the main accidents and complications associated with impacted lower third molar surgery and possible interventions. This is a narrative literature review, in which the databases selected for the work were Google Scholar, Lilacs and PubMed. Twenty-two published works were adopted, including case reports, case-control and literature reviews. In order to reduce the rate of complications, some procedures must be performed preoperatively, such as intra and extra oral asepsis, patient instruction on postoperative care and medications, and tissue handling with care. and complications during and after surgery. However, it is necessary for the surgeon to have knowledge on the subject, as most accidents are related to the technique used and training of the dentist, making a detailed anamnesis and surgical planning necessary.
