This COVID-19 pandemic period has further accelerated the use of TDICs by teachers and students, with the increasing use of several technological approaches, such as the adoption of new applications, platforms, in addition to different methodologies. One of these technological/methodological approaches is microlearning, which emerges as a new way of sharing knowledge through more objective and shorter classes. This study, that to date, is the first literature review work published in Portuguese addressing this subject as the main theme, sought as its main objective to carry out a literature review addressing various aspects of microlearning, introducing motivation, presenting its main concepts, their relationship with other e-learning concepts, terminologies adopted, relationship between the forgetting curve and content retention, as it has been adopted by integrating other technologies and methodologies and research efforts carried out. For the research of articles on microlearning, the Web of Science and Scopus databases were adopted, in addition to Google Scholar. The results showed that there is still much to be investigated on the subject, especially in formal education including elementary, high school and higher education.
