摘要:This study aims to identify the opinion of dental students at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), campus of Patos, on dental amalgam. This is a cross-sectional, observational study, with an inductive approach and a comparative, statistical-descriptive procedure, adopting the specific questionnaire as a strategy for data collection. The questionnaire encompassed the following axes: demographic variables (gender, age, period of study, race, already attended the dental materials discipline and already attended the multidisciplinary pre-clinical discipline 2) and variables about amalgam (is it safe for the patient, safe for the professional, environmental impact, the resin can replace it, it should stop being sold, about being outdated, has amalgam restoration and if it would be changed). The sample consisted of 306 undergraduate students from the first to the tenth period of the Dentistry Course at UFCG. Regarding the safety of AD, 63.7% and 58.2% of the sample answered that it was a safe material for the patient and the professional, respectively. Regarding the opinion about the future of AD, 42.5% affirm that it is not outdated. Therefore, it is noticeable that AD is still relevant in dental clinics and services and even in the face of constant innovations available on the market, it is still a material of choice in certain cases, in view of its benefits.
