  • 摘要:This article describes some factors that influence the choice of the Family and Community Medicine specialty by students from the first classes of the Medicine course at the Multicampi School of Medical Sciences of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), based in Caicó, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The objective of this study was to investigate the factors that influence the choice of Family and Community Medicine as a specialty, correlating them with the course's pedagogical project (PPC) and with the students' socioeconomic aspects. This is an exploratory research, with data collection through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire with 23 undergraduate students from the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th periods, ensuring representativeness of each internship period. The results portray the analysis of the responses of the 23 medical students interviewed, according to a questionnaire with 17 questions. Most of the sample is male, half of the students are 25 years old or younger and only 25% of the students are over 27 years old and 60.87% come from a private school. As for the geographical origin of the students, 19 come from the interior of a state and only 4 from the metropolitan region and 95.65% were admitted to the university through some inclusion policy of the federal government. The results of the study demonstrate that students who choose Family and Community Medicine do so because of personal convictions, which may influence the course's pedagogical project, but also have roots in the students' life history.
