摘要:Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of the kangaroo mother method to reduce pain in premature newborns. Methodology: systematic review, conducted with primary studies published between 2017 and 2021. The search terms were “kangaroo mother method”, “pain” and “premature newborn”, in three languages, in various information resources. As a result, 334 articles were found. Of these, 11 were selected to compose the sample. Results: The painful stimulus most used in the investigations was puncture of the calcaneus during neonatal screening. The administration of sucrose, positioning of the neonates, early bandaging, music therapy and snuggling were the methods used for comparison. The kangaroo mother method prevailed as the main analgesic measure in children exposed to painful stimuli. Conclusion: the kangaroo method proved to be effective in reducing painful stimuli in newborns. Final considerations: It is necessary to replicate the guidance for parents and professionals of the kangaroo mother as an intervention for pain relief and comfort for the newborn.
