摘要：Respiratory system disorders affect all age groups and can generate severity, morbidity and mortality. The urgency and emergency service is the patient's gateway to the hospital, with functionality 24 hours a day, offering a multiprofessional and specialized approach to patients who can rapidly evolve to life-threatening and serious complications. The physical therapist plays a fundamental role, directly intervening in cardiorespiratory disorders, considering that pulmonary alterations are one of the main reasons for hospital admissions. The objective of the present study was to carry out a data collection of patients admitted to the emergency room of the Hospital Universitário do Oeste do Paraná (HUOP) with signs, symptoms and diagnosis of diseases associated with the respiratory system and the respective physiotherapeutic performance. 1020 medical records of patients in the emergency unit were analyzed in 2020, where 89 patients met the inclusion criteria. There was a greater predominance in females (n=47, 52.8%). The main cause of hospitalization was acute respiratory failure (n=36, 40.4%). Pulmonary sepsis was the pathology with the longest stay in the emergency room (5 days). The physiotherapeutic approach was performed in the vast majority of cases 76 (85.3%), where 48 (63%) patients were approached with respiratory physiotherapy, motor physiotherapy and airway aspiration. It is concluded that patients with respiratory complications such as acute respiratory failure and sepsis have a high mortality rate and physical therapy is important in the process of rehabilitation and ventilatory management of these patients.
