摘要：Objective: To know the health care practices of sex workers. Method: Qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research conducted in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 2015, with ten sex workers, through semi-structured interviews, recorded, transcribed in full and analyzed based on content analysis in the thematic modality. Results: We identified sex workers with female gender identity, aged between 18 and 66 years, working in the profession from one to 50 years and monthly income of 800.00 to 5,000 reais. The participants consider themselves to be healthy, worry and carry out self-care practices, use condoms with their clients, perform health tests frequently and highlight the need to take care of the mind, in addition to the body. Conclusion: Based on the knowledge of the perception, care practices and health behavior of sex workers, it is possible to suggest nursing and health actions appropriate to the needs of this population.
