摘要:Social inequalities and the process of segregation are frequently studied in the Brazilian metropolises, however in small and medium cities these phenomena also occur. Between 2000 and 2010, the municipalities of the Paraíba Fluminense Valley went through a process of growth caused by an increase in industrial activity. Thus, this work aims to understand the evolution of spatial segregation in this period. The methodology has constructed indicators that evaluate the dimensions of uniformity, exposure, the existence of clusters and the concentration of characteristics related to income, education, and color and race. It was possible to verify that, according to the place of residence, the inequalities are more pronounced, as this affects the daily life of the population and that small and medium size municipalities also present segregation processes.
