摘要：Background: Cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play a crucial role in cancer progression as they constitute a major part in the tumour microenvironment of the stroma. CAFs also help in lymph node metastasis in OSCC patients. Materials and methods: 18 histopathologically confirmed OSCC cases with corresponding lymph nodes tissue specimens were retrieved from the archives of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology between 2016 to 2019. The portionality and intensity scores of Alpha-SMA and Vimentin marker in OSCC Metastatic cases and non metastatic cases tissue were analysed using Mann whitney test. and statistical analysis was done by using SPSS. P value<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: Alpha SMA expression in metastatic cases showed slightly higher scores than the non metastatic cases p=0.863. Vimentin expression in both metastatic and non metastatic cases showed almost similar scores with p=0.297. Conclusion: SMA expression had a slightly higher mean score in metastatic than in non metastatic cases. Vimentin was expressed with an equal high score in both metastatic and non-metastatic cases. The majority of the cases that expressed SMA In primary tumors, showed expression in corresponding Metastatic Lymph Nodes also.
