摘要:BACKGROUND: The epithelial component of ameloblastoma is in a constant interaction with the connective tissue(CT) for its growth, nutrition and invasion. The aim of the study was to evaluate the stromal patterns in variants of ameloblastoma and to assess the association between various stromal parameters. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included n=40 cases of ameloblastoma and the histopathological evaluation of the stromal patterns were performed by 2 independent observers. RESULTS: Conventional (50%) and unicysticameloblastoma (50%) showed a predominance of fibrocellular CT pattern. In conventional ameloblastoma predominantly hyalinisedtumour-CT interface (42.3%) was seen. The level of hemorrhage was found to be significant in variants of ameloblastoma (p=0.001) and also in histological variants of conventional ameloblastoma (p=0.015). The association between stromal parameters like CT pattern and Tumour-CT interface, CT pattern and Vascularity, Tumour-CT interface and Vascularity were also found to be statistically significant in variants of ameloblastoma with p values of 0.01, 0.04 and 0.03 respectively. CONCLUSION: Stromal Patterns can play a greater role in the biological behaviour and aggressiveness of ameloblastoma. This study suggests a combination of stromal patterns and the conventional tumour epithelial pattern evaluation to predict the aggressiveness and invasive capacity of ameloblastoma.
