摘要:Extraction is one of the most commonly performed dental procedure, which is undertaken by patients who are systemically healthy and also associated with certain comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension and other systemic problems. Most commonly occurring medical emergency during dental extractions is syncope, which can occur due to stress, hypoglycemia, adrenal insufficeny. Hypoglycaemia can be encountered both in normal as well as in diabetic patients , which could possibly be a side effect of the antihypoglycemics taken by them. The aim of this study is to assess the hypoglycaemic risk in diabetic patients undergoing extraction MATERIALS AND METHODS:The study was done in Saveetha Dental College and hospitals. The data was collected from the dias and was analysed. The number of patients involved in the study were 468 and case sheets from June 2019 to February 2020 were analysed. The ethical approval for the study was obtained from the institutional ethical committee. The inclusion criteria is patients who have undergone hypoglycaemic event and exclusion criteria is patients who have not undergone hypoglycemic attack. The data collected was verified by an external examiner. It has maximum internal validity and minimal external validity. The sampling bias was minimised by a simple random sampling method. The software used was SPSS version 23. The data collected was analysed in SPSS. The independent variable was age and the dependent variable was gender. Descriptive statistics were used and compared with the gender of the patient using the chi square test. RESULTS: From the results of the above study, the female patients were found to be about 44.01% and male patients to be 55.99%. The medical conditions were analysed and diabetes alone was present in 68.45% and associated with other systemic conditions were found to be about 31.55%. Patients consuming antihypoglycemics and insulin were found to be 13.25% and oral hypoglycaemic agents about 51.74% and combination drugs were consumed by 35.02% of the population of the study. CONCLUSION: Hypoglycemia is essential to be analysed and be aware of as they may lead to many future complications like seizures, mimic a stroke, loss of consciousness that may even end up in death. Recognition of hypoglycemic risk factors and monitoring the glucose level is important. In our study we have analysed the risk of hypoglycaemia in diabetic patients using the RBS level and the risk was found to be higher in patients who are taking drugs in combination with oral hypoglycaemic agents.Educating the patient regarding the medications taken and their consequence can reduce the risk of hypoglycemia in future and minimise the complications associated with it.
