  • 摘要:Introduction: Oral Surgery is a surgical speciality in dentistry that deals with reconstruction and trauma in relation to the oral cavity including the head and neck region. Apart from the many intricate procedures performed by oral surgeons, tooth extraction is one of the most common procedures performed in a dental clinic. Tooth extraction is performed pertaining to various causes - such as grossly decayed teeth, periodontally compromised teeth or teeth subjected to trauma. Extraction of tooth comes with increased complications such as excessive bleeding or poor wound healing. Follow up of the patient, post extraction is necessary to assess the healing process. Aim: To evaluate the review rate of patients post extraction visiting a dental college. Materials and Method: A retrospective study was conducted among the outpatient population in Saveetha Dental College, Chennai between July 2019 and December 2019. The data of the patients visiting for a review after extraction was collected using DIAS software from the patients visiting the clinic in the Dental College. The data that was obtained was tabulated in an Excel Spreadsheet and the analysis of the data was made using SPSS software with a chi-square test for association. Results and Discussion: Age distribution of the study was 0-20 years(12.57%), 21-40 years(22.56%), 41-60 years(43.82%), 61-80 years(20.30%) and 81-90 years(0.75%). Gender distribution of the study was males (50.46%) and females (49.54%). To analyse the higher rate of patients turning in for reviews after extraction, an association between the age and gender of the review patients was analysed and it was found that between the age group of 41-60 years, females were the highest(24.33%) whereas males(19.50%) were the highest(in 41-60 years) when compared to the other age groups. Conclusion: The study conducted among the review patients post extraction, visiting Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals shows that the highest number of patients coming in for review after extraction was the highest among the age group of 41-60 years.
