摘要:Background: In medicolegal and forensic point of view, odontology is used to identify human remains. The determination of age and gender is necessary for forensic practice. The identification is helpful in the cases of fatality incidents where the bodies are mutilated beyond recognition and the identification of the individual depends upon the skeletal remains. The aim of the study is to determine the age and gender of adults based on cephalometric analysis. Materials and Methods: The data was collected from Digital Information Archiving Software (DIAS) of Saveetha Dental College. The data was collected from November 2020 to January 2021 . The data included patients who had undergone a radiology examination of lateral cephalogram. The data was tabulated and entered in excel and the data was analysed using SPSS package software. p<0.05 was considered to be the level of statistical significance in the study. Results:From this present study we found that there was a slight increase in the gonial angles in females compared to males, p=0.779. With the increase in age, the gonial angle decreases, p=0.143 .There is no statistical significance between the age and gender with gonial angle. There is a slight increase in gonial angle with females and the gonial angle decreases with increase in age. Conclusion: From this study we can conclude that morphometric analysis using lateral cephalogram can be used as an adjunct for age and gender determination.
