摘要:Background: Odontogenic tumors arise from the mesenchymal epithelium, tooth- forming epithelium or from both origins which cause tooth pain, tenderness and jaw swelling. Ameloblastoma is a rare kind of tumor, derived from the odontogenic ectoderm, that originates from the germ layer of the ectoderm. Unicystic ameloblastoma refers to the well-defined, single cystic sac that is lined by odontogenic (ameloblastomatous) epithelium. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of unicystic ameloblastoma in Chennai based dental college Materials and methods: Data was collected from the patients of Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals. Patients diagnosed with ameloblastoma are the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria involve the patients with other benign and malignant lesions of the oral cavity. The data collection is dated from July 2019 to February 2021. SPSS software is used for statistical data analysis. Results and discussion: The study represented that the incidence of unicystic ameloblastoma was 22.06% which has the highest incidence among other variants of ameloblastoma. The gender predilection was almost equal between male and female with a percentage of 53.3% and 46.6%. The study reported that the 10-40 years of age population were predominantly affected. Conclusion: The study concludes that the predominant type of ameloblastoma is unicystic which has higher predominance of male gender and the chiefly affected age group of population is 10-40 years of age.
