摘要:INTRODUCTION: Healing abutments are the screw placed after the second stage and before insertion of prosthesis. They are available in different lengths and projects through the soft tissue into the oral cavity. Healing abutments guide the healing of the soft tissue in the desired form after placement of the implant in single stage surgical protocols or after implant have been uncovered in two stage protocols.Healing abutments should not extend more than 2 mm coronolly from the gingival margin to limit force transmitting during mastication. It should be out of occlusion in all excursive and protrusive motions. Care should be taken in patients with a history of parafunctional habits and there is a need to check clearance from opposing teeth MATERIALS AND METHOD: A total of 809 patients were involved in this study based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study was conducted among healing abutment placed implant patients reported at Saveetha dental college and hospital,Chennai. All the data were entered in the excel sheet and data analysis was done using SPSS software. Chi square test was used to find an association between the study variables RESULTS AND DIMENSION: Among 809 study subjects, the mean age was 39.40 and males (58.37%) were reported higher in number among implant treated patients. The predominantly used healing abutment type was stock healing abutment (92.83%). The most commonly used implant type where healing abutment was placed was endosseous implant and most common site was 36 and 46 (17.39% and 17.89%).5*2 mm size was the most common dimension used among 18 to 35 years and 35 to 55 years with 89%, 45%. This was found to be statistically significant. p=0.01. CONCLUSION: The clinician should consider the abutment selection as a part of the initial treatment planning procedure for prosthetic phase. The present study indicates that 5*2 mm healing abutment dimension is most commonly used. Stock healing abutments were preferred over other types of healing abutment.
