摘要：Introduction Provisional restorations are an essential element of prosthodontic treatment as they protect the abutment from damage during the time period in which the permanent restoration is being prepared. PMMA and PEMA are the two most common materials used for creating provisional crowns. There are few studies which focus on the abrasive resistance of provisional crowns, hence, the aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, awareness and perception of dental students on the abrasive resistances of methyl methacrylate provisional crowns. Materials and methods The study was done in the form of an online questionnaire. A self administered questionnaire containing questions regarding physical attributes of provisional crowns was distributed to dental undergraduate students of a private university hospital. The collected responses were then tabulated in Microsoft Excel and then imported to SPSS Version 23 for statistical analysis. Chi Square test was used to find association between comparative variables. Results The responses gained from 103 students were included in the study. 67.9% were aware of provisional crowns, 16.5% knew all the uses of provisional crowns, 47.5% said that provisional crowns cause wear and tear of the opposing natural tooth, 61.16% said that the addition of dimethacrylate in paste dispensers has helped with the abrasive resistance of PMMA crowns, 54.3% said that CAD/CAM produced PMMA exhibit significantly higher properties than their traditional counterparts and 67.9% said that they would prefer to use PMMA over other materials thile making provisional crowns. Conclusion Dental undergraduate students were aware of provisional crowns and their physical properties, although their knowledge of specific physical properties like abrasion is seen mainly among IIIrd years and IVth students.
