摘要:Background &Aim : Tobacco usage is increasing day by day even with increased awareness about the risk which is associated with it. People still neglect those risks and still use tobacco whether it's chewing or smoking. Tobacco is one of the major factors which causes oral cancer .The aim of this study is to find out the Duration , type and frequency of tobacco usage associated with potentially premalignant lesions among out patients. Methodology: It's a retrospective cross sectional study in a university setting. Case records were collected and analysed the data of patients between June 2019 and Feb 2021 from private dental institution. A total of 183 cases were recorded with patients who have a habit of tobacco from the age group of 18-25 years. The data was tabulated with parameters such as age, gender, type of tobacco and premalignant lesion present and type of lesion. Data was then imported to IBM-SPSS v20 for statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics was done for further analysis Result: A total of 183 cases have been shown to use tobacco in the age group of 18-25 years in which 98.9% were males and 1.1% were females. 74.3% use cigarettes while 25.7% use chewing type tobacco. The intensity of tobacco usage was also recorded in which 89.1% use tobacco less than 10 times a day while 10.9% use more than 11 times a day. 90.2% cases have shown no signs of premalignant lesions whereas 9.8% have shown premalignant lesions where tobacco pouch keratosis was most commonly seen Conclusion: 9.8% cases have shown association of premalignant lesions in which Tobacco pouch keratosis was the most prevalent premalignant lesion seen in this study.
