摘要：INTRODUCTION: Global Adult Tobacco Survey- India revealed that more than one third of adults in India use tobacco in some form. 21% use smokeless tobacco, 9% use smoke form of tobacco and 5% use mixed forms and the quit rate is very low. In an effort to decrease prevalence of tobacco use it is thus important to understand the factors that are related to intention to quit and relapse among tobacco users. The present study reports the reasons for quitting and relapse among tobacco users. The present study aims to report the reasons for quitting and relapse among tobacco users and its association with socioeconomic status. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cross sectional questionnaire study among tobacco users who have attempted to quit was conducted in chennaicity in the month of february among age group 18 to 60. Validated, standardised questionnaire was used to assess the reasons for quitting and reasons for relapse of tobacco.Data was entered in Microsoft excel spreadsheet and analysed using SPSS software (version 23). Descriptive statistics were used to assess the distribution. RESULTS: The results of the study revealed that the majority of the males (34%) and females (1.33%) quit tobacco due to existing health problems and the difference is statistically not significant. (Chi square test p value = 0.790). Major reason for relapse is due to tobacco withdrawal symptoms. Smokeless forms of tobacco are the predominant one. CONCLUSION: The main objective of this study is to create awareness among tobacco users to quit tobacco and it's our duty to educate them and create an insight about the ill effects of tobacco usage.
