  • 摘要:Widely damaged teeth involve enamel as well as dentin could be due to caries or other causes, resulting in the preparation of retention could not be fulfilled so that additional pin is used as retention. Pin is made of titanium and used as retention for restoration with the aim to unite restorative material in the tooth cavity by filling the hole that is prepared in the dentin. The aim of the study was to evaluate the awareness about pin retained amalgam restoration among dental practitioners. The objective of the study was to know whether there is enough awareness about use and role of pins in amalgam restoration. Materials and Methods: The online survey was conducted among 100 participants among dental practitioners. The Questionnaire consisting of 20 questions were framed based on the knowledge and awareness about pin retained amalgam restoration and circulated.The results were obtained and statistically analysed through SPSS software, chi square test was done to check the association and a p value of 0.05 was said to be statistically significant and represented in pie chart and bar graphs. Results: Out of 100 participants, 54.72% were aware that pins create horizontal and vertical stress and cause dentinal craze line and 46.23% were unaware. About 50.94% felt that internal stress caused by pins can be reduced by placing a channel 2mm deep, 29.25% of participants decreased by increasing space between pins and 19.81% decreased by placing pins parallel to occlusal force. 55.66% were aware that increasing the number of pins decreases amalgam strength and fractured the tooth and 44.34% were unaware. 44.34% were aware that pin retained restoration failure more likely would occur at pin retained interface and 55.66% were unaware. Then the chi square analysis was done with association of graduation and the opinion of participants whether they knew about self-threading pins create horizontal and vertical stress and cause dentinal craze lines, majority of first year participants agree with it than other participants, which shows p value=0.746 (>0.05) hence it is not statistically significant. Conclusion: On analyzing the results obtained from the present study it is clear that there is low to moderate awareness among dental practitioners about pin retained amalgam restoration; thus, awareness must be created among the general population, and it totally lies in the hands of the dental practitioners to clearly explain the patients about the restorative materials and provides them enough knowledge to choose the right material of their choice for a better treatment.
