  • 摘要:Introduction : Acrylic resins are frequently used in dentistry for the fabrication of denture bases. Acrylic resin is composed of polymethyl methacrylate which is the major cause for the cytotoxic effects to the tissues leading to allergic reactions in patients. Acrylic resin dentures are used in replacing the lost tissue. It also transfers the masticatory forces from dentures to the residual ridges. During polymerization reactions, all the monomers are not converted into polymers. There are some unreacted monomers called residual monomers. These unreacted monomers are the major causes of the allergic reactions. The aim of this study is to evaluate the awareness of the monomer allergy among the dental students. Materials and Methods : The study setting was through an online survey among dental students. There were a hundred participants involved in the survey. A questionnaire comprising 11 questions was posted on an online survey platform. The statistical software used for analytics included SPSS software. The statistical test used was descriptive. Obtained data were plotted into graphs and pie charts. Results : Common allergic reactions to monomer were asked where 25% of the participants responded to mouth soreness, 39% of the participants responded to burning sensation and 36% of the participants said both. 69% of the participants agreed that monomer allergy is due to the unreacted monomer while 31% of the participants disagreed with it. Conclusion : From the study, it is evident that the majority of dental students are aware of the allergy to monomer. Comparing undergraduates and postgraduates, postgraduate students have more knowledge over the various aspects of monomer allergy.
