  • 摘要:Background: Orthodontics is a dental discipline dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment and correction of teeth and jaws and bite patterns. Treatment will take months to a couple of years to use dental braces and other appliances to shift the teeth and jaws slowly. An archwire for orthodontics is an alveolar or dental arch wire that can be used as a force to correct defects in alignment of the teeth with the dental braces. Nickel titanium (NiTi) were used in orthodontic wires because of their shape memory properties, super-elasticity, high ductility and corrosion resistance. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitude and create awareness about the alloys used in orthodontic wires among dental students. Materials and methods: A survey based questionnaire was done to provide knowledge about the alloys used in orthodontic wires. A self-designed 13 questions were collected through google form. The data collected and statistically analysed by SPSS software. Results: Results are collected in the form of pie charts. 85% of the dental students were aware of alloys used in orthodontic wires. The knowledge about the type of alloys used in orthodontic wires, 68% of the students answered Nickel titanium alloy and 32% of the students answered stainless steel. The level of significance is less than 0.05. Conclusion: The present study concluded that dental students are highly aware of the alloys used in the orthodontic wires and there need to create awareness about the hygiene methods and alloys composition.
