摘要:Plants are used for various purposes in our day to day life. Most of the people worldwide depend on natural medicine obtained from the medicinal plants. Ficus benghalensis (Indian Banyan tree) has a great medicinal value and has many phytoconstituents. Ficus benghalensis is a woody plant which has a long life span and different parts of Ficus benghalensis possess analgesic properties. Selenium nanoparticles are important in the field of medicine and they possess antibacterial, antioxidant and anticancer properties. The aim of the present study was to study the oral pathogen control using selenium nanoparticles of Ficus benghalensis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One grams of dry powder of Ficus benghalensis was weighed and taken. 100ml of water was used, the mixtures were taken in a conical flask and boiled for 5minutes at 60°C-80°C. 30millimoar of sodium selenite was added. RESULTS: An intense surface plasmon resonance at 390 nm in the UV visible spectrum clearly reveals the formation of selenium nanoparticles .The zone of inhibition for Entero faecalis at 25µL it was 9mm, at 50µL it was 12mm, at 100µL it was 14mm and at antibiotic it was 35mm. Overall Entero faecalis has a greater zone of inhibition at all the concentrations. CONCLUSION: Based on the results recorded in the present study, it is concluded that Ficus benghalensis has a potential antimicrobial activity on human oral pathogenic microorganisms. Hence the present study findings provide a wonderful scientific base for some of the medicinal claims of Ficus benghalensis .
