摘要：INTRODUCTION Pneumonia is one of the major common respiratory problem in present clinical paediatric practice. Pneumonia is broadly defined as inflammation of lung parenchyma due to an infectious agent that stimulates a response resulting in damage to lung tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between chest x-ray findings and severity of pneumonia in children between 2 months and 5 years of age. To study the clinical outcome in children with pneumonia in relation to admission x-ray. MATERIALS AND METHODS The present study was conducted in the Department of Pediatrics, K.S Hegde Medical College, Mangalore from September 2012 to April 2014. All patients between the age of two month and five years presenting with the symptoms of pneumonia were selected as per modified WHO criteria and included in the study. RESULT In this study, out of the 100 cases 67 had pneumonia, 22 had severe pneumonia and 11 had very severe pneumonia. CONCLUSION This study was done to identify the correlation between chest x ray and severity of pneumonia in children. The results of the study demonstrated that clinical severity of pneumonia does not correlate with x ray findings. Duration to defervescence and normalization of respiratory rate did not correlate with x ray findings. Hence though chest xray is a valuable tool in management and diagnosis of pneumonia, it has to be taken in conjugation with clinical features for both accurate diagnosis and effective management.
