摘要：In this new era where technology and face of media is changing at rapid pace the creation and consumption of news and information is also changing. Now-a-days rapid transformation of traditional print media in online portals has become a new trend. This change is quite interesting and important as the online news spread more quickly and has democratized the means of news production and dissemination but on the hand online social media has become a breeding ground for false and fake news. Increasing use of mobile devices and easy wifi access to 3G/4G networks , facebook and instagram and you tube have become powerful platforms for providing news and entertainment no doubt the increasing use of social media for dissemination of news is very fast and easy but at the same time it sometimes lead to spread of fake news which has been found to have adverse impact on society. The paper attempts to analyse the impact of fake news on society. The study is descriptive in nature and questionnaire and personal interview from respondents is used to collect the data. The result from primary and secondary resources are used to highlight the impact of social media on society.
