摘要:Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease, it is mainly due to infection from periodontal bacteria present in the dental plaque and host response. Aim:To estimate the haematological parameters in patients with aggressive periodontitis. Materials and methods: A total of 40 individuals were selected from those attending the out patient department of a Private hospital. The patients were divided into two groups, patients with aggressive periodontitis test group (n=20) and control group (n=20) without periodontitis . The purpose of the study was verbally explained to the patient and informed consent was obtained from the patient prior the collection of serum samples. All the data were analyzed by using SPSS software. Student t test analysis was made to find out significant differences between the two groups. Result: It was observed that the mean hemoglobin levels [13.97±1.96] in control subjects was statistically higher as compared to the test group[9.44±0.83] (p< 0.0001). Similarly, the mean packed cell volume in control subjects [41.7±6.06] were statistically higher as compared to the test group [34.75±7.7] (p< 0.003). There was no statistical significant difference in RBC and WBC count. Conclusion:Anaemia as reflected by low haemoglobin in aggressive periodontitis patients is constant finding as observed. Further longitudinal studies with larger sample size are needed to investigate the association between haemoglobin levels and different types of periodontitis, and the effect of periodontal treatment on haemoglobin levels.
