摘要:Background: Traumatic ulcer is a painful intra-oral inflammatory lesion that is initiated by some type of traumatic event, most commonly due to a bite injury, trauma from sharp teeth or ill fitting dentures. While the majority of the traumatic ulcers heal uneventfully in the oral cavity following elimination of the cause, some transform into chronic deep and penetrating ulcerations which can be extremely painful. There are no known risk factors and can be seen in age group. The most common location for traumatic ulcers is the posterior lateral border of the tongue, but lesions can also be seen in buccal mucosa and lips. Sometimes it may clinically resemble malignancies or infections such as tuberculosis, syphilis and deep fungal infections. If there is any clinical suspicion a biopsy is indicated. Establishing a correct diagnosis and monitoring these patients with regular follow ups are essential to avoid possible complications. We report here 2 cases of traumatic ulcer of the tongue in a healthy 48-year-old and 57-year-old female who had different presentations, emphasising on the importance of biopsy, proper diagnosis and management.
