摘要:Learning styles refer to the modality through which students learn best from their environment. There is sufficient evidence in literature suggesting that students who are tested on their learning style and given appropriate education according to their learning style perform better academically. This research aims to ascertain the relationship between the three primary learning styles: visual, auditory and kinesthetic and the academic performance of undergraduate engineering students. The relevance of the topic lies in the choice of sample and the present scenario of virtual education, owing to the pandemic. A correlational research design was chosen and the sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The sample comprised 236 engineering students from various engineering colleges in India. The criteria for selection was (a) they should have undergone at least 1 year of classroom learning and 1 year of online learning (b) those whose CGPA consisted of a minimum of 4 semesters. The Learning Styles Questionnaire by O'Brien (1985) was administered to identify learning styles of the participants, while academic performance was measured using the cumulative GPA as of the preceding semester. The data was found to be normally distributed. Pearson's product moment correlation and one way ANOVA was used to analyze the data. Significant findings emerged indicating the need to focus on the kinesthetic modality in engineering teaching pedagogy. Implications to policy-makers, curriculum designers and engineering faculty have been further discussed by the authors.
