摘要：Biological effects of radiation are broadly classified as non-stochastic and stochastic effects. High-dose ionizing radiation (x-ray) caused both deterministic and stochastic effects. Low dose of radiation leads to mainly stochastic effects, though the exposure is minimal still it is very important to reduce the radiation to avoid the accumulated dose to the dentist and the patients in their lifetime. The aim of this study was to create awareness of treatment protocols with radiation therapy among dental students. Materials and Method: This is a cross-section descriptive survey that was conducted among chennai populations. The sample size was 100 and simple random sampling was followed. The study subjects varied from 20 to 25 years of age. The study was approved by the scientific review board of Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals The survey consisted of a self-administered questionnaire with 15 questions. The questionnaire was validated and then distributed using an online survey portal - google forms. The data thus collected were tabulated in an excel sheet and then exported to SPSS. Chi square analysis was then done to compare the results between the genders. The results were depicted as Pie charts and bar graphs. Results and discussion: According to my study 59% were aware of radiation therapy in the oral cavity and 41% were not aware, 55% were aware of radiation therapy on oral cancer,45% were not aware, 54% were aware radiation therapy controlled the growth of cancer and 46% were not aware. In the similar study the population 32 were females and 46 were males. According to my study 59 were female and 41 were male, and concluded that There was no significant correlation between the number of radiographs taken and knowledge of radiation protection or practice. Conclusion: According to this study most of the students were not aware of the treatment and protocols of radiation therapy further studies need to be done with a large number of the population.
