摘要:Background: Patient centered care (PCC) is a growing concept adopted and practiced by several countries to better the health-care experience of the patient.1,2 It is broadly defined as therapist’s attentiveness towards patient care preferences and needs, engaging patients in decision-making, consideration of patient’s emotions, keeping patients informed and motivating them. The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the importance of patient-centered care. During the pandemic, the work of healthcare professionals has been more challenging than usual, which has resulted in stress. However, while caring for patients with COVID-19 during this chaotic time, it is important to perform patient-centered care that evokes deep understanding and sympathy for patients and their families. Objectives: -To investigate undergraduate physiotherapy student’s knowledge and attitude on patient-centered care towards COVID-19 patients in relation to its meaning, attitudes and limitations. Materials and methodology:-A cross sectional study was conducted at Krishna College of physiotherapy, KIMSDU, Karad. A total of 120 undergraduate physiotherapy students were included by random sampling. Questionnaire on knowledge and attitude towards patient centered care in COVID-19 patients were circulated via Google forms and results were collected. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 20. Result:- The mean age of respondents was 22 years. Almost 90 % students had knowledge that PCC means active patient and family participation(p=0.0012). 88% students knew that PCC means giving patients maximum priority in health care delivery(p=0.1440). Overall, majority of the respondents 98% agreed that practicing a PCC approach was important. Most respondents 84% agreed towards showing empathy and creating a friendly atmosphere during treatment sessions. Conclusion:-This study shows that undergraduate physiotherapy students are having a sound knowledge regarding Patient-centered care towards COVID-19 patient, appropriate knowledge leads to proper application of patientcentered care in treatment protocol.
