摘要:BACKGROUND: Mandible fractures are classified as favourable and unfavourable. It is favorable when the muscles tend to draw bony fragments together and unfavorable when bony fragments are displaced by any muscle forces. Vertically unfavorable fractures are believed to allow distraction of fracture segments in a horizontal direction. The present study focuses on the incidence of favourable and unfavourable mandibular fractures in a private hospital setting over a period. AIM OF THE STUDY: The aim of the present study was to analyse the incidence of mandibular angle fractures (favourable and unfavourable) in a private hospital setting. MATERIALS AND METHOD:Retrospective analysis of all the cases (mandibular angle fractures) was retrieved among the overall data of patients visiting Saveetha Dental College. The data was entered in Excel Spreadsheets. And the collected data was analysed using SPSS software version 19. Chi square test was used to statistically evaluate the results. RESULTS:In the present study, it was seen that favourable fractures had a higher prevalence rate 67.91% than the unfavourable mandibular angle fracture which was about 32.31%. And also favourable fractures had a higher prevalence of the male population and the age groups 20-30 years. CONCLUSION: From the present study, it can be concluded that favourable mandibular angle fractures had a higher prevalence rate when compared to unfavourable mandibular angle fractures.
