摘要:This research tends to explore the text Divergent (2011) from the perspective of hyperreality by using the framework of Jean Baudrillard (1983) and Umberto Eco (1990). Baudrillard (1983) proposed that hyperreality is the inability of one’s conscious mind to distinguish between copy and reality. Eco (1990) called hyperreality as the fabrication of fake reality. The research is qualitative in nature and uses Murphy’s (1972) model of character analysis to analyze identity distortion of the character Tris because of hyperreal simulation. This paper concludes that certain truth values associated with the character Tris based on simulations are hyperreal in the text Divergent which result in the distortion of her identity.
