摘要:The study focused on the influence of students’ spent time on social media on academic performance among Science Education students. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The study was guided by five research questions and two null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. A population of 600 Science Education students was used for the study. From the population, a sample of two hundred and fifty (250) students (198 females and 52 males) were selected. Two instruments were developed by researchers for data collection. The reliability of STSNQ was established using Cronbach Alpha, with reliability coefficient of 0.78 obtained. Data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation (SD), ANOVA statistics were used for data analysis. Findings of the study revealed that majority (89.1%) of students spend an average of 5 hours and less on social media per day. It also revealed that majority of the students (60%) patronize Whatsapp more followed by Face book (29.2%) than other social media platform. It also revealed that students who spend fewer hours (5hours and less) on the social media had higher performance mean score than those that spend more time among others. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others, that teachers should leverage on these social media to be giving students assignment and instructions so as to engage them meaningfully on the usage of the social media.
