  • 摘要:Objectives This study aims to maintain an overview of the functioning of libraries during a pandemic and show significant changes in their role and importance. In addition, the aim of the work was to prove that in the traditional approach to interpersonal communication, libraries guarding knowledge and science. Material and methods The study mainly used the method of observation and analysis of available statistical data, literature sources and legal documents, guidelines and instructions as well as normative documents adopted during the pandemic. All changes in the functioning of libraries at that time were described on the websites of libraries in Poland and around the world and in scientific publications. Results There was presented changes in the role and importance of libraries and scientific information in the pandemic era. Weaknesses were diagnosed in remote work of libraries, examples of good practices and recommendations were given, as well as ways of dealing with similar adversities in the world of libraries. Changes in the world of information have also been identified, including the phenomenon of infodemic. The methods of working in an epidemic emergency were verified and it was shown what new tasks and roles the library can play. Conclusions As a result of the conducted research, it has been proved that the tasks and functions of libraries have changed significantly. More importance in the functioning of libraries was assigned to their digitization. The use of electronic tools in the work of librarians and in communication with users has also increased. Libraries had to come into contact with the reader, not only as a user of the library, but also a user of social media lost in the information chaos and overwhelmed with infodemic, at this difficult time for him.
