摘要:Objective: To verify the prevalence of hearing complaints in adults with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Material and methods: Cross-sectional study with a non-probability random sample of 21 adult individuals diagnosed with MS by the International Diabetes Federation who answered a questionnaire to identify possible hearing complaints (dizziness, tinnitus, hyperacusis and aural fullness). After applying the questionnaire, sociodemographic data (gender, age, skin color and education) and the cofactors of MS were collected in medical records. Results: Of the 796 volunteers analyzed from the database, 92 individuals were eligible and called for the study, only 21 participants answered the questionnaire. Most of the sample was composed of women (85.7%), with a mean age of 48 years, black skin color (47.6%). The most prevalent cofactor of MS was systemic arterial hypertension (SAH), frequent in 9 participants (64.3%). As for hearing complaints, dizziness was the most frequent symptom, present in fourteen (66.7%) individuals, followed by tinnitus reported by nine participants (42.8%), hyperacusis (discomfort to loud sounds) reported by eight individuals (38.1%), and aural fullness, in 6 (28.6%); nineteen participants (90.5%) reported good hearing. Conclusion: we noticed a high prevalence of hearing complaints in patients with MS, of which half of the sample had at least one hearing complaint, showing the need for early investigation of these complaints in people with MS, in order to make an early auditory diagnosis, avoid and/or minimize disorders stemming from a permanent hearing loss.
