摘要：Objective: to verify the existence of the kangaroo method in Brazil, in addition to observing its main impacts on the lives of mothers and babies participating in the method. Methodology: integrative literature review, conducted through six steps. An advanced search was carried out in the computerized databases of the Virtual Health Library, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Web of Science and Scopus. The articles resulting from the data search were all exported to the Rayyan software for careful analysis and selection. Full articles, in Portuguese and English, published between 2016-2021, using the following controlled descriptors in Health Sciences were included: kangaroo-mother care method and infant, premature. The sample consisted of 15 articles on the kangaroo method. Results: the scientific evidence found in the literature review points to 3 categories: a) mothers' perception of the method; b) barriers in relation to implementation or practice; c) implications for the development of the newborn and its bond with the mother and/or family. Conclusion: The lack of knowledge and depth about the particularities of the method means that professionals and mothers do not perform it in the way it was stratified and planned, promoting a superfluous practice and restricting the indicated benefits.
