摘要:Objectives: to describe the meanings, senses and feelings of women in normal childbirth and in the puerperium and to understand the role of nurses in this process. Methodology: Heideggerian phenomenological research with 14 women who underwent vaginal delivery. Open recorded interviews were carried out and the units of meaning, vague and median understanding and hermeneutics were constituted. Results: the experience of childbirth meant: feeling a lot of pain, being delayed and lacking strength, and having had a difficult postpartum period with the child and with her body; having been afraid of childbirth, having been traumatizing and frightening; and having undergone interventions, having taken medication, not having had a good treatment or guidance. The role of nurses was not defined and the reports of unpleasant situations did not make it possible to identify a specific professional. Conclusion of the study: the experience revealed obstetric violence and fear, which can be avoided with ethical conduct, legal support, qualified assistance and knowledge of rights, by women and professionals who care, especially nurses. The role of obstetric nursing encompasses qualified and humanized care from prenatal care to the postpartum period and should be expanded in maternal and child health institutions.
