This paper evaluates “Igaku Chuo Zasshi, ” which is one of the most significant Japanese abstracts in medicine. In the test of the overlap of coverage by three secondary services (Igaku Chuo Zasshi, Excerpta Medica, JICST Kokunai Igaku Sunken file) using five search questions in the clinical field, and three questions in the pharmaceutical field, it is found that Igaku Chuo Zasshi is the most productive in the clinical field, but not in the pharmaceutical field. The search failure by Igaku Chuo Zasshi is caused by the lack of exhaustivity (the average number of indexing terms per article is 1.80). Igaku Chuo Zasshi should assign more indexing terms.
