    In recent years, the comparative studies of the Engel coefficient and food expenditure have become the impending subjects such as trade liberalization of farm products between America, and Japan. However, the figures of these studies are not adequate enough to analyze the international comparisons. Then we established more realistic methodology about the food expenditure ratios based on the family income and expenditure survey as follows. (1) Defining the standard of classification that is related to the income and expenditure items. (2) Presenting the index adjusting American and Japanese consumption expenditure items. From the above statements we indicate the revised Engel coefficient 1, and the revised Engel coefficient 2.
