It is well known that 2, 5-diacylaminophenol cyan couplers produce CD dyes of high dark stability. Because of this, some cyan couplers of this type have been employed in certain photographic materials. However, since no coupler had been known to fully satisfy the criteria for negative color paper, we searched for a cyan coupler which did. As a result of systematic research, the desired cyan coupler was synthesized. This coupler proved to form a CD dye of both high light and dark stability while posessing an appropriate hue as a cyan dye. The approach used to synthesize this coupler, as well as data on the coupler itself, are presented here.
