Thermal dye transfer prints and dye ink jet prints have the potential to be superior to silver halide photography in respect of color reproduction. It is very difficult for each digital color printing system to simultaneously achieve excellence in tone reproduction, high resolution, and high optical density. This paper describes the quest for the optimal level in digital color prints and printing systems.
