In the 1st report, the authors introduced a new system of the curved shell bending method by a universal press with multiple piston heads, which is supposed to be suitable for an automatic operation of curved shell bending work. And the authors studied the mechanical behavior of curvled plates; the reproduceability of the results, the fairness of curved plates and the relation between the amount of spring back and the shape of curved plates. After these researches, the authors are confidently sure of the practical use of this bending system. In this paper, the authors investigated various problems which arises from the numerically controlled operation of the universal press. First, the authors investigated the off-sets data of ship by a mathematical curved surface and calculated the principal curvature of curved shell. Then, applying the empirical formulae of spring back (obtained in the 1st report) to the bending of plates, the authors developed a procedure of automatic operation of the universal press. Next, the authors investigated the hard-ware of the universal press, especially the mechanism of numerically controlled (NC) screw-jacks and constructed an experimental apparatus which is composed of various types of NC screw-jacks. Valuable information were obtained on the properties of NC screw-jacks by experiments. Finally, the authors proposed a specification of NC system which is composed of a universal press with multiple piston heads for a shipyard.
