This paper is concerned with the evaluation of the escape system in the ship. The escape system is modeled by a combination of several basic elements and represented with a network graph. Mathematical models of the crowd flows in and between the basic elements are constructed using fluid flow analogy, and their parameters are determined from the experimental data. A method is presented to quantitatively analyze the escape of passengers and to design an optimum escape system of the ship. The proposed method is applied to the evaluation and optimization of the escape system of the actual car ferry and its applicability is demonstrated.
