The present paper gives some results of static tests on the fracture of a ship-hull model in collision with a bridge pier. The test simulates the collision condition in which the bridge pier is hit by the forepart side of a ship. The collision is likely to occur in the actual state, but was not dealt with in the previous paper. The test in this paper shows that rather large forces are generated acting on the bridge pier. Furthermore, we study the effectiveness of buffer equipments placed on the circumference of a bridge pier, on the basis of the tests on several kinds of buffer models penetrated by bow models. The composite-type of buffer model, in general, was found to do well from the viewpoint of the energy absorption efficiency. As a numerical example, the amount of the energy absorption was estimated for this type of buffer.
