In the present paper, some structural model tests were carried out, simulating the collision of ship side with the buffer placed on the corner parts of a bridge pier. We used two kinds of buffer models, referred to as grid-type and composite-type. Force-deformation curves were compared between two types of the buffer models. The composite-type of buffer was found to be effective in a side collision, as well as in a bow collision which had been studied in the previous paper. The amount of energy absorbed by this type of buffer was estimated, in both cases of a side collision and a bow one.
