To estabilsh a quantitative evaluation method of the brittle fracture strength of offshore structure, a series of researches have been conducted. In the previous study, brittle fracture tests of tubular T-joint model were carried out under tensile loading and it was made clear that the brittle fracture strength of tubular joint models was evaluated by using estimated hot spot strain and the CTOD criterion by taking welding residual stress into account. In actual condition, however, tubular joints of offshore structure are subjected to bending load in addition to tensile load. Therefore, brittle fracture tests of tubular T-joint model were performed under bending load in this study. It was made clear that hot spot strain and the brittle fracture strength of tubular T-joint under bending load can be predicted by the same method used in tensile loading tests. Furthermore, the fracture toughness requirement to avoid brittle fracture was investigated.
