Various kinds of strength properties and corrosion resistances of TMCP type [KA 36+317 LN] stainless-clad steel plates were investigated to apply the clad steel plates to the hull of chemical tankers. The following results were obtained for TMCP type [KA 36+317 LN] stainless-clad steel plates. (1) It was confirmed that the bonding strength of stainless/carbon steel boundaries in the clad steel plates with higher strengthes and higher toughness was kept higher after the clad steel plates had been heated and thermally strained by welding. (2) It was confirmed that the fatigue strength of stainless/carbon steel boundaries was kept enough higher after the clad steel plates had been welded. Moreover, when the fatigue cracks were forced intentionally to be propagated into the stainless/carbon steel boundaries, the fatigue cracks were propagated rather in the carbon steel in the vicinity of boundaries. (3) There was no phenomena of sensitization found for the stainless cladding metals. The stainless cladding metals had better resistance to the pitting, crevice corrosion and cargoes (crude phosphoric acids and concentrated sulfulic acids). Based on the above mentioned results, it is considered that TMCP type [KA 36+317 LN] stainless-clad steel plates had enough higher strengthes, higher toughness and better corrosion resistances to be applied to the hull of chemical tankers.
