This paper deals with a new digital type of marine engine governor which can regulate fluctuations of not only propeller revolution but also torque. The basic models for predicting their fluctuations are a control type of multi-variate auto regressive model which is fitted by minimum AIC estimate procedure. Using these models, the authors designed two types of marine engine governor. Actual on-board experiments are carried out by using a small type of training ship with a controllable pitch propeller. In this paper, the authors report on the results of the actual experiments and make clear that the newly proposed engine governor can regulate the propeller rpm and the torque at the same time.
